description
The Chinese language can be difficult to understand, and the grammatical complements is perhaps the most challenging area of Chinese Grammar.
As a qualified and experienced teacher of Chinese, I see that the difference between intermediate and advanced learners lies in a working knowledge of how, when, and where, different complements are used. This course develops your knowledge of grammatical compliments, pushing intermediate learners of Chinese into the ‘advanced’ category.
If you want to pass yourself off as an Chinese native, this course is an essential stepping stone.
The course begins with lectures on the most common complements; these are complements that natives use in their everyday speech, so it is essential that anyone hoping to master Chinese learn and understand them.
In Chinese, verbs are often not used alone. A complement is a word or phrase that follows a verb (or sometimes an adjective) and provides additional meaning to the verb phrase. For example, let’s look at the verb 做 (zuò) – “to do”: 做好 (zuò hǎo – do well), 做完 (zuò wán – finish doing), 做到 (zuò dào – accomplish), 做不了 (zuò bù liǎo – cannot do), 做得到 (zuò de dào – able to do), 做得不错 (zuò de bù cuò – do quite well), 做起来 (zuò qǐ lái – start doing), 做下去 (zuò xià qù – continue doing).
Many Chinese learners need help using these complements correctly because they don’t see the whole picture. It’s like trying to complete a puzzle without all the pieces. We’ve done the hard work for you!
"Because Chinese complements have no exact counterpart in English, they can be a little bit difficult to get the hang off at first.
As is often the case, plentiful examples will help clarify."
By the end of the course, you will find yourself using these Grammatical complements in conversation, and you will even start noticing the more difficult ones in the books that you read, or in the TV shows that you watch.
Being ablate use Chinese complements , you will speak with more confidence, elegance, and eloquence.
